The Range
Description
Bringing new stores to life up and down the UK. A long list of solutions delivered in a short time scale.
BACKGROUND
From opening its first store in 1989 in Plymouth, The Range is now the fastest growing retailer in the UK. With over 150 stores nationwide, it stocks more than 65,000 products across 16 different departments. Harley Haddow has been involved with their success and expansion right across the UK from Inverness to Penzance for a number of years.
CHALLENGES
Many of the stores are existing buildings with previous uses. Our role often entails introducing mezzanine floors, lifts, escalators, sprinkler systems, garden centres, loading bays, car parks and so on. The requirements differ depending on the building. Some older sites also require structural alteration with existing mezzanines being altered to receive new stairs, escalators and lifts. Other projects involve new builds from scratch. A lot of time is spent by the client on resolving the legal aspects of the lease before we’re involved, however, once approved, the store needs to be up and trading as quickly as possible. This means we’re invariably working to a very tight timescale with site start almost coinciding with commencement of design.
SOLUTIONS
With a retained client like this, we use our experience from previous projects and seek to avoid reinventing the wheel. Continuity of the project team is essential as well. We’ve developed close team relationships and good working partnerships with other specialist designers and sub-contractors.
