Director, Chris Mclaren retires from Harley Haddow
After an incredible career spanning over three decades, Director, Chris Mclaren retires from Harley Haddow.
Chris joined the company in 1989 after three years in London, where he worked on major refurbishment projects such as the Foreign Office in Westminster and the Royal Courts of Justice. A degree-qualified and chartered engineer, he studied at Napier College and later at Heriot-Watt University.
He became a Partner in 1999 and played a key role in expanding the MEP division, working on significant projects including HBOS The Mound, the National Portrait Gallery, and Mareel in Shetland. He was instrumental in taking the business beyond Scotland, helping establish the Guildford office in the early 2000s, which later relocated to London in 2012. He also contributed to the company’s international presence with projects in Doha, Kolkata, Colorado, and the Middle East.
Chris has been involved in a wide range of challenging projects, from 20 Fenchurch Street (the Walkie Talkie building) in London to remote off grid developments on the West Coast of Scotland. His early drive for growth helped shape Harley Haddow’s expansion, with the MEP division continuing to develop under the current leadership.
In recent years he has stepped back from both the Edinburgh and London offices working more closely with the Glasgow team delivering and managing unique projects whilst supporting the Glasgow management team.
Chris will remain recognised for his early contribution of ambition and growth which has continued to be developed and delivered by his successors. His passion for unique design-led projects and association with the client and architects who deliver these projects is recognised as part of his legacy at Harley Haddow.
We sincerely thank Chris for his dedication and contributions to Harley Haddow over the years. We wish him all the best for a well-earned and fulfilling retirement
